Pair of barrel armchairs attributed to Josef Hoffmann, reflecting the geometric forms and spindle construction associated with the Vienna Secession and Wiener Werkstätte. The chairs are characterized by a curved enclosure of closely spaced vertical spindles and a continuous crest rail. These examples are finished in black lacquer and fitted with later light grey upholstery.
The chairs are formed by a series of vertical spindles extending from the arms to the base in black-lacquered wood. The curved upper rail follows the perimeter of the frame, while the upholstered seat is suspended within the spindle structure.
Very good vintage condition with age-related wear. The black-lacquered frames show sporadic scratches, surface marks, and localized finish wear, primarily along the armrests, exposed edges, and corners. Minor abrasions are visible on several spindle elements and lower sections of the frame. The upholstery remains in good condition with light signs of use.
