Thonet Flex 2000 Armchairs by Gerd Lange

Designed by Gerd Lange for Thonet in 1973, the Flex 2000 chairs combine moulded black polypropylene seat shells with a beechwood frame and rounded solid wood legs. The continuous seat and back shell is supported between the side frames, with cylindrical black connectors carrying Thonet markings at the upper joints, while the integrated armrests extend from the side frames. This set is an early production example, with the original factory date wheel indicating December 1978, and retains its original Thonet Flex / Gerd Lange identification label. The chairs are finished in dark green over the wood.
Good vintage condition with cosmetic wear consistent with their early production date and age. The dark green wooden frames show scratches, abrasions and localized areas of finish loss, particularly along the legs, side rails and around the joints, with some areas exposing the wood beneath. The black plastic shells have fine surface scratches and marks throughout. The black connectors show surface scratches and wear. The chairs remain structurally intact and stable.
