Designed by Giandomenico Belotti for Alias in 1979, the Spaghetti 109 is the armchair version of the Spaghetti collection, which inaugurated Alias's history and is now represented in the collections of MoMA in New York and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. The chairs combine a tubular steel frame with the collection's characteristic PVC construction, with the front and rear legs, arm supports and connecting tubular elements finished in polished chrome. Blue PVC cords are stretched across the seat, backrest and armrests, while exposed tensioning rods and the contrasting chrome frame define the lightweight construction. The chairs can be stacked for storage.
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use. The blue PVC shows surface scratches, fine marks and areas of wear, with more pronounced scuffing and discoloration to some arm and seat sections. The chrome-plated frames retain a bright finish with light scratches, localized oxidation and surface wear. The tubular frames and tensioning elements appear structurally sound, and all four chairs retain their Alias markings.
