René Herbst ‘Sandows’ Chairs
0 available
One of eight 'Sandows' chairs by René Herbst, originally designed in 1928 and produced by Formes Nouvelles from the 1960s onwards. A landmark of French modernist design, the model is recognized for its industrial clarity, combining chromed tubular steel with elastic cord seating in line with Herbst's interest in functional, modern materials.
Constructed from chromed tubular steel with black elastic cords forming the seat and backrest. The tensioned cord construction creates a lightweight visual profile while providing a flexible and comfortable sit, balancing structural precision with an understated industrial aesthetic.
In excellent vintage condition with minimal expected signs of age and use. The chrome frames show light surface scratches and minor marks throughout. The elastic cords are intact and present well, with light wear visible on close inspection.
Slight variations in height are present across the set, consistent with production tolerances, as visible in the photos.
