Set of four Italian dining chairs, likely produced during the 1970s. The sculptural solid wood frame and integrated leather upholstery recall the work of Italian designer Silvio Coppola, while the restrained detailing reflects the craftsmanship of high-quality Italian cabinetmaking of the period. The design is defined by sculpted solid wood rear uprights that rise beyond the seat to cradle an upholstered leather backrest, while the leather seat appears suspended within the timber frame. Soft transitions between wood and upholstery, gently tapered legs and carefully resolved junctions give the chairs a quiet architectural quality. Their restrained detailing and emphasis on craftsmanship place them within the tradition of high-quality Italian cabinetmaking of the period.
The chairs are structurally sound with stable frames and no visible repairs or replacements. The leather upholstery shows light creasing, minor scuffs and localized wear consistent with age and use, most noticeably along the upper edges of several backrests. The solid wood frames have scattered surface scratches, small dents and areas of finish wear. One chair has a more noticeable abrasion to the lower front edge of the seat rail. Overall, the chairs present well with an even colour and patina.
