Designed by Giovanni Offredi for Saporiti Italia in the 1970s, the Sail chairs are defined by their sculptural black moulded frames, curved front supports and distinctive openings above the backrests. The continuous, flowing forms give the chairs a strong architectural character, balanced by the softness of the upholstered seats and backs. This rare surviving set retains its original green and brown geometric textile, whose intricate pattern brings texture and colour to the dark frames.
The chairs are in vintage condition, with scratches, scuffs and small chips to the black frames, particularly along the legs and edges. The original green and brown upholstery has been professionally cleaned and remains in place, with visible fading, uneven discolouration and wear to the seat and back surfaces. Some fabric edges show fraying and loose threads, particularly around the underside and backrest edges. Given the rarity and value of the original upholstery, reupholstery is not recommended.
