Designed by Gae Aulenti for Knoll International in 1974 and introduced in 1976, the Orsay three-seater sofa features a sculptural frame in glossy burgundy-lacquered steel. Its rounded armrests and continuous tubular structure support separate seat and back cushions upholstered in taupe-grey leather. The contrast between the deep burgundy frame and the softly upholstered cushions defines the sofa's construction and appearance.

The sofa is in vintage condition and is structurally stable. The burgundy lacquered steel frame shows scratches, scuffs, small chips and localized paint loss, particularly along the curved armrests and exposed edges. The original taupe-grey leather upholstery has pronounced creasing, uneven discolouration, surface scratches and scattered marks, including localized areas of more noticeable damage. The leather remains intact, with no visible tears or open seams. The interplay between the worn taupe-grey leather and deep burgundy lacquer gives the sofa a rich, nuanced appearance, with the uneven patina adding to its character.
