Early version of Pierre Paulin's Little Tulip lounge chair for Artifort. This example retains the characteristic two-part upholstered shell, with the curved seat and separate rounded backrest connected by exposed brushed metal brackets and mounted on its original white lacquered swivel pedestal base. Upholstered in a rust-red woven fabric, the chair follows the continuous curves of the shell while the contrasting white base and exposed metal brackets emphasise its sculptural construction.
The chairs are structurally sound, with stable swivel bases and no visible repairs or missing components. The upholstery remains in good condition with some uneven colour fading, localized discoloration and light signs of use. As an early production example, the chairs retain their original foam, which has become firmer with age and hardened in places, while remaining fully functional and comfortable for everyday use. The white lacquered bases show scattered scratches and minor paint losses, while the brushed metal brackets have light surface wear and oxidation.
