Sculptural Chrome Base Desk Attributed to Saporiti

Italian writing desk with a dark, richly striped wood veneer finish and a polished chrome tubular steel base. The raised rear section incorporates two drawers and a recessed central shelf, while the main work surface features a central drawer with a lock and open compartments on either side. Rounded metal legs form a continuous U-shaped support structure, contrasting with the rectilinear desk body and its glossy surfaces. The design closely resembles a 1960s desk attributed to Fratelli Saporiti in an auction catalogue, although the attribution of this example remains unconfirmed.
The veneered surfaces show scratches, scuffs, small chips and localized losses to the finish, particularly along the front edges and corners. There are areas of surface discoloration and a small turquoise-colored mark. The chrome-plated frame has minor surface marks and localized wear. The original key is present, and the central drawer's lock mechanism is functional.
