Designed by Tobia Scarpa for Gavina and introduced in 1965, the Bastiano sofa combines a structural oak frame with large loose leather cushions, creating a fully demountable seating system. This example features a black-stained oak frame assembled with exposed fasteners and broad horizontal members, with the seat, back and arm cushions resting within the timber structure to emphasize the contrast between the rectilinear frame and the soft upholstered volumes. The original manufacturer's label is no longer present; however, the sofa has been identified as an authentic Gavina production based on its documented construction and model characteristics.

Excellent vintage condition with age-related wear. Leather very well maintained, without any noticeable defects, holes or similar. Natural creasing and a genuine patina present. The oak frame displays scattered scratches, edge wear and minor finish losses, mostly along exposed corners and upper rails. Cushions retain their shape well.
