Designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Gavina and introduced in 1965, the Bastiano armchair combines a structural oak frame with large loose leather cushions, creating a fully demountable seating system. This example features a black-stained oak frame assembled with exposed fasteners and broad horizontal members, with the seat, back and arm cushions resting within the timber structure to emphasize the contrast between the rectilinear frame and the soft upholstered volumes. The original manufacturer's label is not present; however, the armchair has been identified as an authentic Gavina production based on its documented construction and model characteristics.

Excellent vintage condition with age-related wear. Leather very well maintained, without any noticeable defects, holes or similar. Natural creasing and a genuine patina are present, together with minor surface marks consistent with use. The black-stained oak frame displays scattered scratches, edge wear and small finish losses, particularly to the lower edges and exposed corners. Cushions retain their shape well.
