Understanding is built through repeated handling: inspecting objects, transporting them, restoring them and preparing them for a new context. While unique pieces remain an important part of the collection, repeated production allows us to observe how furniture was assembled, how it performs over time and how it can be responsibly maintained. We believe the future of design lies not only in new production, but in the continued relevance of what has already been made - and made well. By extending the life of existing pieces, we contribute to a more sustainable design culture, where longevity and thoughtful reuse take precedence over disposability.

Manufacturers are as important to our research as designers. Their archives, production methods, hardware and technical solutions preserve forms of industrial knowledge that extend beyond individual objects, offering insight into the cultures of production that shaped postwar European furniture.

Our location in Zagreb naturally led us to source extensively in Italy because of its proximity. What we discovered, however, was that Italy represents an industrial ecosystem rather than a style. Combined with our interest in the relationship between design and manufacturing, it remains the strongest, though not the only, point of reference for our collection.

What truly defines our collection is the focus on anonymous and overlooked pieces — often produced for offices, institutions, or public spaces - that reflect the material intelligence and design ambitions of their time. The pieces we source - often from basements, attics, or decommissioned offices - are selected for their structural integrity, formal clarity, and ability to challenge or expand the idea of what furniture can be in a contemporary context. These are not polished showpieces; they are functional, well-constructed, and carry the traces of their previous lives.

Seating occupies a significant part of the collection because it allows us to study repeated production. Series reveal how objects were constructed, how they have aged, and how different manufacturing decisions continue to influence their maintenance and longevity. They also demonstrate the specialised expertise of manufacturers, whose contribution to industrial design remains comparatively undocumented despite leaving behind bodies of work that continue to inform how we source, restore and understand furniture today.
